How to create a tech pack from a reference photo
Turn a garment reference into a reviewed technical sketch, measurements, materials, construction notes, and a tech pack PDF with Sylai.

1. Start with a clear garment reference
Choose a well-lit photo or sketch that shows the garment silhouette and key construction details. Include front and back references when you have them, and explain which details to keep or change. Only upload images you have permission to use.
You can begin the conversation with a description, but sketch generation needs a reference image. A photo cannot reliably reveal hidden seams, fabric composition, or exact measurements, so supply those details separately.
2. Describe the garment you want to make
Tell Syl the intended fit, fabric, closures, pockets, and use. Distinguish details visible in the reference from changes you want. Review the assistant's questions rather than treating a generated first draft as an approved specification.
3. Review both technical views
Check silhouette, seams, openings, sleeves, and front/back consistency. Ask for specific corrections and inspect the updated sketch. Add an existing logo through Add artwork so the original image is retained as a placement, rather than asking for it to be redrawn.
4. Confirm measurements and materials
Choose the measurement unit, base size, and size range. Review each point of measure, its measuring method, and tolerance. Specify fabrics, trims, thread, construction, colors, and labeling as needed for your design.
Measurements inferred from a photo are only a starting point. Confirm them against a fit sample or an approved size specification, and review grading with your pattern maker.
5. Export, inspect, and sample
Download the PDF and check every section before sharing it. Include your original artwork and any supplier files the factory needs. Agree unresolved details with the manufacturer and approve a physical sample before production.
The time required depends on the garment, the completeness of your inputs, and the revisions you request. Keep revising the same pack as decisions become final.
